The Cinema Festival The Castle in Images resulted of the idea to homage and underline the historical, social, cultural, artistic and cinematographic importance of the Castle. It was born from the common interests and wills around the walls of a Castle, of all castle; of the Castle of Portel in the town of Portel, but also of all the Portuguese castles and, besides that, of the castle as symbol and expression. 

To recover the castle as past and project it as future, to rethink the idea of the castle as adventure and myth, that’s the project.  Inside all utopias are possible (…) it’ll surely be a promising reality that will largely help and contribute to a more intense cultural life in this Portuguese region, and it’ll also be a debate and analysis forum of the situation of castles in our country ass well as in the whole world. To the Festival is associated to the National School Contest The Castle in Images which integrates the Drawing or Painting, Photography and Video or DVD categories, destined to Basic Education and University students, which planned a creativity challenge for the Portuguese youth; a challenge to their commitment and talent and whose objective is to promote personal views and the school research around the Portuguese castles.
