The Portel’s town council approved in the last 21st March the construction works for the new Municipal Library which was handed over to Ramos Catarino, S.A. Company.
This work is basically the construction of a space which has been yearned for the town council for long time and which, due to several motives, as well as, during sucessive municipal governments was being postponed. Thus Portel’s municipality will have a new cultural space which will be situated at Cerca de S. Paulo, more precisely in the building that surrounds the cloisters of the Cerca de S. Paulo, which was partially damaged.
This heritage’s restoration, connected to the construction of such a building in the middle of a park, will be, definitely, a proud to the municipality of Portel and for all the welcoming visitors.
The conclusion of the works is planned for June 2008 and with a total amount of 680.000 €.
The Portel Town Council wishes to thank the inhabitants for the comprehension showed during the works to improve the necessary modernization of the council.
